Meta (previously Facebook) will launch its first store in Burlingame, California. Visitors can try out Meta items before buying. This includes its Portal and Ray-Ban Stories video-calling gadgets.
Meta’s retail store will have a demo area for their Meta Quest 2 VR gear. Beat Saber, GOLF+, Real VR Fishing, and Supernatural are playable. Meanwhile, their VR gaming is streamed in real-time on a giant curved LED screen. Players take a 30-second mixed reality clip home.
The Meta Store will show how our items may be a portal to the metaverse. We’re not selling the metaverse in our shop, but ideally customers will leave understanding how our items connect them to it, said Meta Store Head Martin Gilliard.
Having a store in Burlingame allows us to experiment and prioritize customer experience. What we discover here will shape our retail approach.
