Earn money building a next-generation NASA simulator. NASA and Epic Games are developing a hyper-realistic VR simulator to simulate the harsh conditions of Mars to better train future explorers. They need your help.

NASA’s Mars XR Operations Support System mimics life on Mars using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5. This features complete Marcian days with spinning day and night cycles (orange and blue colours), variable weather conditions, Martian gravity, rovers, and over 400 km2 of explored terrain.

NASA launched the NASA MarsXR Challenge, a new crowd-funding competition on HeroX. Participants must create realistic assets and scenarios astronauts may experience on Mars. NASA hopes to better prepare future astronauts for EVAs by creating a realistic VR simulation of the planet.

“Creators may utilize Unreal Engine to construct realistic simulation situations to assist NASA prepare for future missions,” said Seb Loze, Unreal Engine business director for simulation at Epic Games. Anyone can develop using UE5, and we can’t wait to witness the immersive simulations the community creates
